Gospel
Matthew 9:18-26
Reading
She said to herself, “If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured.” (Matthew 9:21)
Revelation
We use many things to bring us in contact with the sacred: Holy water, medals, scapulars, relics, statues. It is not the mere contact with these holy objects that gives us grace or protects us. They rather bring us in contact with God, with the Blessed Mother, or with a saint whose intercession we invoke. This contact should be a reminder to live a life that pleases God.
Reflection
Holy objects—holy water, medals, scapulars, relics, statues—are gentle reminders of a deeper truth: grace comes from God alone. These sacred things are not magical shields or automatic sources of protection. They are invitations.
They point your heart toward the Lord, the Blessed Mother, and the saints whose intercession you seek. Every time you touch or see them, you are being called back to a life that honors God, a life shaped by faith, humility, and love. The true power lies not in the object, but in the conversion of the heart it inspires.
Response
Lord Jesus,
You are the source of all holiness and the giver of every grace. As I hold or see the sacred things that remind me of You, let my heart be drawn closer to Your presence.
Purify my intentions so that I may never rely on objects, but on Your mercy and love alone. May every reminder of the sacred lead me to live a life that pleases You—faithful, humble, and obedient to Your will. Teach me to seek You above all things, to honor You in my thoughts, words, and actions, and to walk each day with a heart that desires only what is holy.
Amen.
