“Who are you, so we can give
an answer to those who sent us?
What do you have to say for yourself?”
(John 1:22)
Who are we pointing to — ourselves or Christ? True greatness is found in humility and mission, not recognition. When we stop trying to be the savior and simply become His witness, peace follows.
In a world obsessed with identity, status, and self-promotion, we are reminded that we are not the center — Christ is. We can be religious yet fail to recognize the Lord standing quietly in our midst — in the poor, in silence, in Scripture, in the sacraments, in the ordinary. Every act of kindness, forgiveness, and repentance “makes straight the way of the Lord” in our hearts and communities.
It is not about us but it is all about the Lord. He is the very life that is in each and everyone of us making us think, say, move and do things in accordance with the Father's will. What we are and who we are speaks of His glorious works done in us for our benefit and for those around us. God's presence in us is the very reason for our existence. Without God, we are nothing.
Jesus is one in us whom we usually fail to recognize. He walks beside us on the road, shares our joys and cries and listens to our hopes and fears. He knows our deepest needs, offers us His grace and peace, and plants his kingdom seeds. He works with us in our daily tasks, shows us what is wise, guides us with His gentle hand, teaches us His ways, and blesses us with gifts and skills.
Jesus is our Lord and Savior who loves us with a perfect love, calls us by our name, waits for us to turn to Him, longs to be our friend, invites us to His table, and wants our love to mend. Today, let us come to Jesus and recognize His presence in each and everone of us.
Lord Jesus Christ, You who were already standing among Your people unrecognized, open my eyes today to see Your presence in my life. Give me the humility of John the Baptist — to point not to myself but always to You. Straighten what is crooked in my heart, cleanse what needs repentance, and prepare me to welcome You more deeply. Make me a faithful witness of Your light, a voice that leads others toward Your love. You are the One who comes after all my efforts, yet You are greater than all I could ever do. Jesus, be the center of my life today and always. Amen.
